Government Faced Allegations of Attack on Freedom of Expression After UK Reporter Detained
A leading Muslim civil rights group has alleged the present administration of a “blatant insult to free speech” following national immigration authorities held British journalist Sami Hamdi this past Sunday.
This body asserted that Hamdi was detained at San Francisco International airport facility due to speaking out against the Israeli current military campaign in the Gaza Strip. The journalist is one of several individuals who have been arrested and expelled by federal agents for expressing pro-Palestinian stances.
Federal authorities said that Hamdi’s travel visa had been canceled, and that he was in custody “pending removal.”
Immigration Authorities Detains UK Reporter Following Criticism of Israel
UK reporter Sami Hamdi was reportedly held Sunday by ICE agents at San Francisco international airport, and the organization says that action is clear punishment for the Muslim analyst’s criticism of Israeli actions while visiting the US.
Comments from the group said it was “a clear attack to freedom of expression” to detain Hamdi for condemning Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza while he was involved on a speaking tour. A government representative commented in a separate statement that Hamdi is slated for removal.
